Joint Development Integration Facility Transition

On January 1, 2010, PEO STRI's Project Manager Constructive Simulation (PM ConSim) assumed management responsibility for Joint Development Integration Facility (JDIF). The facility was previously under the management of the U.S. Joint Forces Command USJFCOM). The JDIF, located in the Central Florida Research Park, is a 30,000 square-foot facility with a 10,000 square-foot secret laboratory. It is an important development and integration facility for testing and supporting joint models, simulations and training software. The facility maintains access to the Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN) and Joint Training and Experimentation Network (JTEN). This network access and the JDIF's laboratory infrastructure provide an ideal facility the government to conduct integration and testing events. Access to the JTEN and DREN enables developers in Orlando and end users across the nation are able to collaborate on programs, reducing the development time and travel expenses between the development and testing sites.

The JDIF is currently home to PEO STRI's Digital Integration Laboratory (DIL), Live, Virtual, Constructive Integrating Architecture program, and the Joint Land Component Constructive Training Capability (JLCCTC). The DIL supports system and software integration and development activities and conducts Pre-Army interoperability certification testing. The JLCCTC provides the simulated operational environment in which computer-generated forces stimulate and respond to the command and control processes of the commanders and staffs to support both Army and joint training requirements. The USJFCOM also utilizes space in the laboratory for their Joint After Action Review program. The Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation maintains numerous U.S. Air Force command and control as well as simulation products in the JDIF for integration and testing with the JLCCTC as well as remote customers.

The transfer of management responsibility of the JDIF from USJFCOM to PEO STRI was hardly noticed by the tenants of the facility as the transition occurred smoothly without interruption of any services. The future of the JDIF is also bright as PEO STRI is planning for renovations that will increase the capabilities of the facility. ♦
