Team Orlando
Getting more for DOD training and education dollars is always a goal for acquisition and training organizations. Within Team Orlando, this concept is put into practice as core Team Orlando partners share information and technology to meet specific education goals. A good example of technology leveraging comes from the recent Defense Acquisition University (DAU) game called Procurement Fraud Indicator – a game produced by DAU in Orlando in collaboration with government and industry partners.

DAU is employing game technology and continuous learning modules to provide learners with innovative simulations designed to train and enhance the acquisition workforce capabilities. The Procurement Fraud Indicator game is an adventure game that teaches acquisition professionals to identify fraud, and it provides the learner with situations and opportunities to practice in a safe environment. The game focuses on a character suspected of committing fraud. The scenarios are presented in two phases – the hidden object phase where the player collects clues that leads to a conclusion – and the interview phase that allows the player to interrogate the suspect to gather information. At the end of the phases, the player can “win” the game by correctly identifying the fraud, or if the player did not win, he/she can try other theories until they succeed.

The Procurement Fraud Indicator game was a finalist in the recent Serious Games and Showcase Challenge at the 2009 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference. The use of gaming technology has been found to be very effective in training our troops and educating our workforce. Team Orlando is showcasing a number of games and virtual world technologies in the upcoming GameTech 2010 User’s Conference, March 29-31 in Orlando. ♦
